Week Two: Document Markup

Graphics and TOC Instructions

All tasks for this week are demonstrated in the two videos posted to this page (Macintosh demo with some Windows screen shots).

Remote session is not tied to any particular days, but here are the links (all Windows Screen shots) for the in person instructions:

Friday: table of contents & A4 (scroll down for A4 video)

Save entire document to A4

danger

Very important!!! After you change your page size to A4, and before you reformat your table of contents, apply the changes to the whole document. Otherwise, you will only change one sectionwhich in the case of the TOC is only one page.

Grade yourself before submitting: check a few random pages in later chapters and make sure all pages are saved as A4 in the second document!

Change the page layout to create a document to be printed, but not bound.

  1. to be sent as a file to a colleague based in either Asia or Europe, and
  2. to create a document to be printed, but not bound which is Normal margins, not mirror margins.

First save a second copy of the document named lastName_firstName_YYYYMMDD_the-information.a4.docx

Then ...

  1. Change the page layout to 0 gutter
  2. Change the paper size to A4
  3. and, update the table of contents to show new pagination

Save two files for task 03

  1. lastName_firstName_YYYYMMDD_the-information.docx
  2. lastName_firstName_YYYYMMDD_the-information_a4.docx

Save them to your UNC OneDrive space and share them both with your recitation instructor. The recitation instructor can then download them directly from your OneDrive space.

In Canvas, just enter a comment saying you have shared them, or enter the URL for both of the shared files.
