Free Audio-Based Content Sources

Audio is very prevalent on the web, but you may not notice it as readily. In my personal self-study experience, it is not uncommon to find YouTube videos that are essentially audio files. It is also not uncommon to find narrated PowerPoint presentations that may include very long audio commentary over just a few slides. Audio is perfect for language learning as well.

The library of Congress not only has text but audio (and video too): Library of Congress Audio Recordings. Librivox has free public domain audiobooks. There are also a great many audio files available at the Internet Archive: Free Radio Programs at Archive.org

Tools

Audacity is my absolute favorite tool for working on audio on both my Mac and my PC. Sometimes I will edit audio files in my video editing program of choice, Adobe Primiere.
